Ani pioneered the Islamic interfaith-nikah service and has officiated hundreds of weddings since 2006. She specializes in interfaith, intrafaith and same-sex marriages, fulfilling the Islamic requirements in the design of a mixed service that also includes and respects the non-Muslim partner’s traditions.

An award-winning songwriter and singer, Ani’s presentation of the Qur’an at weddings is unique and memorable, the perfect touch for a distinctive and elegant Muslim wedding. Ani’s work as an imam and marriage officiant can be viewed online in the acclaimed short documentary “al-imam”.

Ani was born in Malaysia, and raised as the daughter of an Ambassador to Germany, Egypt, and India. Her work as a human rights activist takes her to many disparate parts of the Muslim world, and she has regularly led prayers as an Imam in the Los Angeles area. She and her husband have been married for over 30 years; together they have one adult daughter.

Ani conducts a very limited number of weddings in the Los Angeles area, and is available to travel for select engagements when her schedule permits.
